Question by indyth@sbcglobal.net: Any ideas for the best shore trips in Dominica? Eco tour or adventure related ?
Is the volcano something to see? We can hike fairly rugged terrain. Would a boat trip be better than a bus trip? best beach or waterfall suggestions appreciated.

Dominica is beautiful. I have heard that the hike to Boiling lake is incredible but extremely strenous even for the experienced hiker. Trafalagar Falls is a good tour and they take you to Ti Tou Gorge as well (as seen in Pirates of the Caribean 2). The tram ride is pretty but I am not sure it is worth 0 pp. The Whale Watching trip is nice but mostly a nice boat ride with drinks. They are very knowledgable and you might get lucky. We enjoyed the trip even though we only saw mostly dolphins. I have also heard that the snorkling around a place called Champagne spout or something like that is cool.

Dominica is in the Winward Islands. It is a very pretty island with waterfalls, drive in volcanos and the most beautiful mountain scenary–lots of beautiful flowers all along and their own species of parrots. Your best bet is to plug in Commonwealth of Domina on your search. I would stay at Papillote guest house right in the middle of the Rain Forest-close to the Carib Territory. You can email the former Carib Chief–Chief Auguiste. He organizes bus tours around the island. His email is: onenicepeople@hotmail.com— We have stayed at Papillote and have had him take us all around the island. Fully recommended. If you have bigger groups–then you can contact Ken at Hinterland Tours–but for a small, really Dominican experience–contact Vince Auguiste at the email address I have given you above.
