Q&A: What other movies do you think I should buy?

Question by Avid Film Freak: What other movies do you think I should buy?
It's simple. I'm gonna post my movie list and you just give me your favorite titles that are similar to the ones that I have.

I DO have a "to buy" list, but it's not very long. If at least one of your recommendations checks out (meaning, If I've seen it before and liked it, OR I do research on the movie and it looks good), I will buy it/them.

I have a wide range of types of movies, from hardcore horrors to 1950's drama. I'm a movie buff, I just hit 200 movies, and am working on steadily growing my collection. You give me an idea on what I would like.

Thanks to those who take the time in reading all this, and to those who answer seriously.

Only one of those movies I don't consider a "good" movie (Journey to the Center of the Earth), and I have it because it was free. I already plan on getting all seasons of whatever tv shows I already have. So no need to recommend more seasons of those shows.

Again, thank you.
Those who know me KNOW it's not a waste of money. I have more joy showing people movies than watching them myself. In fact, many of these movies I've seen several times. For example: "The Thing" I just showed it to my roommates last night, must've been the 20th time I've seen it.

I've seen Congo at least 6 times. I loved the book, Micheal Crichton is my favorite author.
Seen the Illusionist, didn't like it as much. I might consider it though....
My friend, you do good research. Yeah, I didn't much like The Departed, but it was because I was in a phase at that time I think. I bet if I saw it again I'd like it more. I'll give it another shot.

And yeah, I've seen Unforgiven, and was a tad disappointed. Great movie, great drama, great sense of reality, however, and I don't know why yet, the movie rubbed me the wrong way. Most likely I'll have to watch that again too.
That last comment was directed to Alex, btw
Awesome Bryan, good recommendations. I HAVE already seen Zombieland, and in fact, it's one of the ones on my "to buy" list, GREAT movie.

I've already seen Slither, I think it's a great movie. I'll add it, thx

Funny you mentioned Hatchet and Fido. I started watching both, but stopped about 10 minutes into them. Hatchet, because I had to leave somewhere and never got around to finishing it. Fido, because it was rather funny and awesome already and I thought it'd be better not to watch it by myself.

I'll finish both of those, and most likely will end up owning them if I liked them. Thanks
To Some1 and David B: I gotta run to class, i'll respond to your recommendations in a short while...shoot I might even do 'em during class, we'll see.
@ Some1: I saw Despicable Me, and it was allright. I think I'd rather buy Megamind though. Tommyknockers, Trimmer movies, and breaker breaker I have not yet seen, I'll look into those. I see you're a Stephen King fan, because I've also seen Rose Red and I just might consider that one.
@ David B: Face/Off, Enemy at the Gates, The Green Mile, Rain Man, and Ghost are now all on my "to buy" list. Thanks! Unfortunately, I have not seen the rest except for "I Am Legend", which I didn't like that much. I think i'll get around to watching the others.
@ Tamara: Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are fantastic movies, Tarantino is a brilliant director/writer. However, I grew up Mormon (still am), and so I grew up very sheltered when it comes to movies. As I grew older and moved out of my parents 7 years ago, I started expanding my horizons when it came to film viewing. I am way more lenient with movies when it comes to members of my faith, however I still usually don't like to buy movies that contain a tremendous amount of language, nudity, or other disturbing content (like men getting raped) that I don't like. Some movies I have made exceptions for, such as District 9 and Se7en, because those movies are pure awesomeness. I do see myself making an exception for Reservoir Dogs, but Pulp Fiction is a little too extreme for my tastes. Honestly, if it weren't for one specific scene in pulp fiction, I would own it by now. I think you know what scene I'm referring to.

Fight Club is one that also disturbed me, for some reason. You gotta under
@ Bryan G: Thanks man, i just added "Willow", "Hellboy 1 & 2", and "Reign of Fire". I didn't really like Enchanted, and I thought Lake Placid and Deep Blue Sea were a little stupid (except in DBS when Samuel L Jackson met his demise. That was awesome!).

I haven't seen the others, but will definitely get around to doing so.

Thanks again bro

@ Tearbear: Haven't seen The Getaway yet, the Transporter movies is already on my "to buy" list, and "Hitman" wasn't all that great.

Thanks though!
@ TAMARA: eff me, I accidentally deleted the rest of what I said to you! I was saying how you gotta understand that some movies like those give me a bad taste because of how dark they were. I will probably get Fight Club though, because it's so epic.

I forgot the rest of what I said. Crap.

Wait, I remember now.

Kick-A**, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and "Sin City" are a few of my absolute favorite movies. I already have Kick-A** on my list, but I'll go ahead and add the others, what the hell.

Great list! Thanks a ton!

  2. Alex says:

I see that you have The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which is a great western with Clint Eastwood. I also see that you have Gran Torino, which was directed by Eastwood. I’d suggest getting Unforgiven (1992). Unforgiven is a terrific western directed by Eastwood, and that movie earned him his first two oscars, for best picture and best director. Another movie I’d like to suggest is The Departed (2006), which is (if you haven’t heard of it) a Scorcese directed movie about an undercover “officer” (Leonardo Di Caprio) who infiltrates a Boston crime ring, while maintaining anonymity from a police sergeant (Matt Damon), who actually works for the Boston crime ring. This suggestion isn’t so much based off of your movies, as it’s based off of the fact that it is my favorite movie of all time.

    EDIT:
I see that you rated The Departed 6/10 at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApovlO9jWjsVVUfMc9oNj67n5nNG;_ylv=3?qid=20110101114106AAOk0FT
I guess to each his own; I hope this doesn’t make you hesitant to watch Unforgiven. After all, I liked Mystic River and Good Will Hunting, as you seemed to.
